Part I: Human Sin
1. ABOUT HUMANKIND
a. God created people in His image (Genesis 1:26).
b. The first people sinned, bringing death to all mankind. All people have inherited a sinful nature from them (Romans 5:12).
c. Except for Jesus Christ, all people have sinned and stand in need of salvation (Romans 3:23).
d. By God’s grace, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and the work of the Holy Spirit, people have been offered the opportunity to be born again and adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:15).
2. ABOUT JUDGMENT
a. People die only once and then face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
b. All people will appear before Christ to be judged for what they have done in this life (Matthew 16:27, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Ephesians 6:8).
c. At the judgment, Jesus Christ will separate people into two groups, as weeds are separated from the harvest (Matthew 13:40-43) or as goats are separated from sheep (Matthew 25:31-32).
d. One group will be condemned eternally; the other accepted into Christ’s eternal kingdom. (Matthew 25:46, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).
e. Those who put their faith in Jesus Christ will not be condemned, but receive eternal life (John 5:24).
Part II: Human Redemption
3. ABOUT THE BIBLE
a. The Bible is inspired by God, and is the authoritative, and provides all that we need for Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
b. The Holy Spirit enables us to receive God’s Word (1 Corinthians 2:14).
c. The Bible is the standard for distinguishing truth from error (Acts 17:11).
d. It is not enough to hear God’s Word. We must obey it (Luke 1:28, James 1:22).
e. Some sections of the Bible are difficult to understand (2 Peter 3:15-16). Christians are accountable to God to teach the Bible honestly and without distortion (2 Corinthians 4:2), presenting the complete message of God (Acts 20:27).
4. ABOUT SALVATION AND REBIRTH
a. We are saved by grace through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive new birth and eternal life by the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:4-7). We accept salvation through faith (Acts 16:31).
b. Authentic faith, which leads to salvation, produces good deeds (Luke 6:43-44, James 2:18-19, James 2:26).
c. When we are saved, God rescues us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Jesus purchased this deliverance with His blood (Colossians 1:13-14). We are set free from our bondage to sin (Colossians 2:11, Romans 6:22).
d. The Bible teaches us to declare our new birth through baptism (Matthew 28:19-20), and to proclaim the Lord’s atoning death with the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).
e. When we are saved, we enter into a new relationship with God. God forgives us (Ephesians 1:7), so that we can enter into God’s presence confidently (Ephesians 3:12). God adopts us as His children and heirs (Galatians 4:6-7).
5. ABOUT GOD
a. God is the Creator and Lord of the universe and eternally exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14).
b. God is incomparable in His nature: eternal (Psalm 90:2), omnipresent (Jeremiah 23:23-24), all-knowing (Psalm 139:1-4), all-powerful (Matthew 19:26), and perfectly wise. (Romans 16:27).
c. God is incomparable in His character. He is pure, sinless, and perfect (1 John 1:5, James 1:17), righteous (Psalm 145:17), merciful and loving (Psalm 86:5).
d. God has revealed Himself in Creation, through the prophets, and through the Son, Jesus Christ (Psalm 19:1, Romans 1:20, Hebrews 1:1-2).
6. ABOUT JESUS CHRIST
a. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Luke 1:34-35).
b. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day in fulfillment of the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
c. He ascended into heaven (Luke 24:51).
d. Jesus will return to earth to judge the living and the dead, the righteous and the unrighteous (Acts 1:11, 2 Timothy 4:1, 2 Corinthians 5:10).
e. Aside from the Father, Jesus surpasses all other powers in heaven and on earth (Hebrews 1:1-4, Matthew 28:18). He is victorious over all other rulers and authorities (Colossians 2:15). No spiritual or earthly force can separate us from the love of God that we find in Christ (Romans 8:38-39).
7. ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
a. The Holy Spirit has been active eternally (Hebrews 9:14).
b. When we come to Jesus Christ, He sends the Holy Spirit to be with us and to live in us forever. (John 14:16-17) Because God’s Spirit dwells within us, we are God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16).
c. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus Christ by drawing people to faith in Jesus Christ and by helping, teaching, and reminding believers of what Jesus taught (John 14:26, John 16:8). The Holy Spirit gives us power to serve as His witnesses (Acts 1:8).
d. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, we will develop the Spirit’s fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Part III: Thankful Service
8. ABOUT THE CHURCH
a. The Church is the Body of Jesus Christ, who is the Head (Ephesians 1:22, 1 Corinthians 12:27).
b. All of life is to be lived thankfully to the glory of God (Genesis 1:26-28; 1 Corinthians 10:31)
c. The Church has Christ’s authority and commission to extend Christ’s kingdom by proclaiming the gospel, baptizing believers, and teaching Christians to obey Christ’s commands (Matthew 28:18-20).
d. The Holy Spirit gives Christians different gifts to make the Church complete, so that we can work together with our various gifts to accomplish God’s will (1 Corinthians 12:7-12).
e. God desires Christians to be united in their love for Him through Jesus Christ (John 17:22-23). Christian groups are not competitors but fellow members of God’s family.
f. Loyalty to Jesus Christ supersedes our loyalties to specific pastors, teachers, or denominations (Matthew 23:8-10, 1 Corinthians 3:4-7).
9. ABOUT SPIRITUAL CONFLICT
a. Spiritual beings, such as angels and demons, are merely creatures, far inferior to God in every way. They must not be worshipped (Colossians 2:18, Revelation 22:8-9).
b. Christians must not sacrifice to pagan gods, because this is equivalent to worshipping demons (1 Corinthians 10:20-21).
c. Demons will try to deceive us (2 Corinthians 2:11). The Bible warns us to resist them (Ephesians 6:11, 1 Peter 5:8-9).
d. Through Jesus Christ we are rescued from the kingdom of darkness and are welcomed into the kingdom of Jesus Christ where demons have no real power (Colossians 1:13).
e. If we submit to God and resist the devil, the devil cannot prevail. The devil will flee from us (James 4:7).
